No Dust Jacket. Cover: brown leather covered boards with the possible remains of gilt lettering to banded spine, in only fair condition; leather covered boards much scuffed and rubbed both at edges and across the surface; spine seriously eroded and 'repaired' with taupe coloured tape, also much rubbed. Internally: clean, text block soundly bound but both hinges broken, front cover still attached at bottom, rear almost detached; considerable darkening to pages and edges; neat gift inscription to 'Alfred Goff' on front paste down, dated 1869; viii, 108pp Lord Chesterfield & vii, 48 pp. The Polite Philosopher.
