Illustrated with a colour frontispiece, three colour plates, and a double page map from British artist Lionel Edwards, known for his paintings of horses and other aspects of British country life.Collated, complete.In a vibrant half morocco Bayntun-Riviere binding.First published in 1896, Blackmore presents a romance based on a group of historical characters and set in the late 17th century in Devon and Somerset, particularly around the East Lyn Valley area of Exmoor.The novel was chosen by male students at Yale in 1906 as their favourite novel. In a half morocco signed binding, with cloth covered boards, and gilt detailing to back strip. Externally, fine. Endpapers renewed. Internally, firmly bound. One or two spots to text block fore edge, with pages otherwise clean and bright. Leaves lightly tinned to text leaf heads, not affecting texts. Fine.
