About this Item
[Jazz] [Music] [African American] Louis Armstrong. Archive of 6 Concert programs and photographs of the world famous African American jazz musician, This archive includes 4 vintage silver gelatin press release photographs, some with original publisher's articles printed on the margins or pasted en verso, and two original concert programs. Programs are 4 and 20 pages. Measurements range from 6.75" x 9" to 9" x 12". New Orleans native, Louis Daniel Armstrong, was one of the most influential jazz musicians of our time, receiving multiple awards throughout his 5 decade career from multiple Grammys to induction an induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, amongst others. By the 1950s, Armstrong was a national musical icon, appearing regularly in radio and television broadcasts and on film. This archive showcases his career at the height of his fame. The large program features many pages of his biography from his childhood to his burgeoning success with many black and white photographs of him and other famous musicians such as Bing Crosby and James Stewart. Other photos show him with his fans in Hawaii and newspaper scans of headlining articles mentioning the jazz artist who was also nicknamed "Satchmo", "Satch", and "Pops". The program shows an unofficial group of songs that are likely to be played as no formal program is possible "due to the ad lib quality of this music." The other program is held at the world famous Roxy Theatre in Los Angeles and features Louis "Satchmo" Armstrong and His All-Stars performing on stage. One photo from 1965 features Armstrong being presented the International House's International Award of Merit in New Orleans. Another 1965 image shows Armstrong posed happily with a Grammy award. Some original editor's markings. Overall very good condition. Seller Inventory # 20944
