A fine, early photo of this peripatetic and influential commander who took to the field against Louis Riel in 1870. A 3-5/8 x 2-3/8 inch albumen salts print mounted onto the photographer's printed CDV measuring 4 x 2.5 inches. Photo w. a few spots noted in the negative, verso w. pencil notation. In 1870, Wolseley led the Wolseley expedition in Canada ". a military force authorized by Canadian Prime Minister John A. Macdonald to confront Louis Riel and the M�tis in 1870, during the Red River Rebellion, at the Red River Colony in what is now the province of Manitoba." wiki.
