About this Item

Description:

I remember seeing, in England, a cartoon which depicted two head-scarfed women waiting in line in a post office. One says to the other, "I just don't know what to get my Alfred for his birthday". The other woman suggests, "You could get him a book", to which the first woman says, "No, he's already got one of those". This book, although too erudite for that particular lady, is aimed at those with a similar lack of awareness for the rich and rewarding world of books. Divided into the four sections of Why, What, How, and When, the book is anecdotal and readable; entertaining and informative. First published in 1942, this is the revised fifth printing of 1945. Endpapers illustrated by Nelson White. Slightly browned on edges and just a hint of fading to spine, but a very good copy indeed. MC. Seller Inventory # 002433
