Love Letters to the Movement

"An offering of honesty, searching, and love towards the world that, amidst all that is breaking, wants to be born." —Krista Tippett, National Humanities Medalist and founder of On Being

"Profound, soulful, and mightily urgent... potent medicine, a balm for the soul, a conduit for courage." —Valarie Kaur, bestselling author of See No Stranger

"The movement has never lacked for strategy. What it perpetually hungers for is soul... This book is a necessary intervention, and a generous one." —Rodney W. McKenzie, Jr., Freedom Together Foundation

What sustains and grounds you when the world is unraveling?

Not another strategy memo. Not more talking heads or scrolling through rage bait. Something older and deeper is needed: the spiritual wisdom that has carried movements for justice through the worst of human history.

In Love Letters to the Movement, curator Isaac Luria gathers an extraordinary constellation of wisdom keepers — including Michelle Alexander (The New Jim Crow), Báyò Akómoláfé, Rev. Michael-Ray Mathews, Rev. Jennifer Butler, Dr. Rami Nashashibi, Lisa Anderson, Uma Viswanathan, Claudia Horwitz, and Alexie Torres — modern-day prophets who have built organizations, funded movements, and mentored generations of leaders.

Love Letters to the Movement brings together some of the most vital spiritual voices in justice work today, including:

• Michelle Alexander, New York Times bestselling author of The New Jim Crow, on her spiritual evolution and why "we need to find ways back to each other"
• Báyò Akómoláfé on Yoruba cosmology, cracked foundations, and a God who is "diagonal, showing up obliquely"
• Rev. Michael-Ray Mathews on ancestral memory as spiritual power
• Rev. Jennifer Butler on reclaiming the Gospel from Christian Nationalism
• Dr. Rami Nashashibi on the "sacred gaze" — from Chicago's South Side to the Jerusalem-Jericho road

...alongside Lisa Anderson, Uma Viswanathan, Claudia Horwitz, Hierald Osorto, and Alexie Torres.

Their essays are field notes from leaders who have practiced hope despite the odds for decades — and who want to hand you a compass.

If you are weary, lost, or wondering how to keep going: this book was written for you.
