About the Author
But all of that changed the day his mother was diagnosed with cancer. Bill realized he might lose his mother but he had not taken the time to deeply know her. He decided to spend each night over the next several months sitting with her, talking, and sharing together when she came home from her job as a nurse late at night. Each evening he was there. And by the time she did succumb to the disease, he not only deeply knew his mother, but realized that in those intimate exchanges, he had learned the most important lessons of his life: The lessons of love. The result of that education is the new book, For Love or Nothing, an eight-year long project that he hopes will interest a wide range of audiences, from teenagers, to newlyweds, to those who have been married for years. I learned that the significance of a person's life is measured by the depth of his love for others, says Mr. Oak. If we are to find lasting love, we must go beyond the simple acknowledgement that love makes us feel good, and take concrete steps to utilize our full capacity to love. And, the lessons woven throughout the folktales and allegories of this book can help.
