Independent author William Oak, who now lives in Richmond, Texas, is not your typical “sensitive” guy. He grew up in Wisconsin, served as a rough merchant marine on the Great Lakes, and worked in the highly competitive, male dominated oil-trading business. He’'s just like so many of us who grew up not really connecting with our parents, and those we love, not expressing feelings, not talking about what’s important in life.

But all of that changed the day his mother was diagnosed with cancer. Bill realized he might lose his mother but he had not taken the time to deeply know her. He decided to spend each night over the next several months sitting with her, talking, and sharing together when she came home from her job as a nurse late at night. Each evening he was there.
