Lowbrow Reader Reader

This collection gathers together the best writing and drawings from the first eight issues of the Lowbrow Reader, a lushly illustrated comedy journal published in New York since 2001, along with brand new material. The book features bizarre encounters with Muhammad Ali, the White Stripes, and Jackie Mason; a rip-roaring interview about sex with Mo’Nique and Queens of the Stone Age; the definitive account of Billy Madison; and an illustrated guide to America’s CEO dilemma with words from John Waters, Patton Oswalt, George Saunders, and Randy Newman. Contributors include Shelley Berman from Curb Your Enthusiasm, David Berman from the Silver Jews, Gilbert Rogin from the New Yorker, Neil Michael Hagerty from the Howling Hex, and the late singer Lee Hazlewood.

Jay Ruttenberg has written for Details, the New York Times, Spin, Time Out New York, and Vibe. He lives in New York City.
