Lower Your Expectations (and Other Life Skills): Because Perfection Is Overrated and People Are Exhausting

Lower Your Expectations (and Other Life Skills) is a hilariously honest look at modern adulthood, written for anyone who’s tired of pretending life is supposed to be neat, balanced, or filtered.
In this sharply funny and deeply relatable collection, Montana-based author and humorist Katie Simpson takes readers on a joyride through everyday chaos—laundry mountains, social-media meltdowns, bad customer service, family drama, and the occasional menopausal moment of rage. With her signature wit and raw honesty, Simpson reminds us that the secret to surviving life’s nonsense isn’t striving for perfection—it’s laughing at it.
Through stories of marriage, middle age, tacos, and tactical use of sarcasm, she reveals the freedom that comes when we finally drop the performance and embrace being gloriously human.
This book blends humor, heart, and truth in a way that feels like talking to your funniest friend over coffee (or wine).
Because lowering your expectations isn’t giving up—it’s choosing peace, perspective, and maybe the last cookie before someone else gets to it.
