The Luck of the Paw (Paperback or Softback)

After years of lousy luck, karma finally gives Mia Riggins a break. The arrival of a mysterious package of postcards and lottery tickets results in a sudden windfall that makes it possible for her to finally abandon her dead-end job and the dreary industrial area where she grew up. Accompanied by her digestively challenged dog Gizmo, Mia sets out on a road trip to find a new life--preferably a better one. While changing a flat tire along the shore of a stunning lake, she meets architect Chris Blanchard who seems oddly familiar. After driving hundreds of miles to escape her past, Mia has managed to encounter the only person in the tiny town of Alpine Grove who remembers her as Amanita, the bizarre “poisonous mushroom girl” from high school. What were the odds? Probably about the same as winning the lottery.

I hope you enjoy reading The Luck of the Paw as much as I enjoyed writing it. Like all of the Alpine Grove books, it is a stand alone novel. (There are no cliffhangers and no novellas in this series.) For those who have wondered, yes, there will be...

More Alpine Grove
Many people have asked about upcoming books. Yes, I am working on more. You can always find out the latest on my web site SusanDaffron.com.

Although each book is a stand-alone story, because Alpine Grove is a small town, many characters tend to reappear, so I think it's more fun if you read them in order. The correct reading order is:
1. Chez Stinky
2. Fuzzy Logic
3. The Art of Wag
4. Snow Furries
5. Bark to the Future
6. Howl at the Loon
7. The Good, the Bad, and the Pugly
8. The Treasure of the Hairy Cadre
9. The Luck of the Paw
10. Daydream Retriever
11. The Hound of Music

Why 1995?The Alpine Grove novels are set in 1995-1997 and a number of people have asked why. The short answer is because reading about people texting each other is boring. I don't like it in other books I've read, so I chose to set my novels at a time when not everyone had a smart phone.
