Lucky Men

Step into the powerful and introspective world of Mathias I. Brookes in Lucky Men; Unluckily Me, a poignant collection of poems that delves deep into the impact of certain men on her life—men who have shaped her journey through acts both unforgivable and unforgettable. In this raw and unapologetic narrative, Mathias shares her truth, recounting the moments that have tested her strength, challenged her identity, and ultimately fueled her resolve to speak up.

From childhood in the foster care system to the loss of her mother in 2023, Mathias’s life has been a series of silences waiting to be broken. Now, through the art of poetry, she breaks that silence, weaving together stories of villainy, vulnerability, and resilience. Each poem is a reflection of the men who crossed her path, some as villains, others as companions in darkness, but all leaving an indelible mark on her soul.

Lucky Men; Unluckily Me is more than just a collection of poems; it’s a courageous exploration of self, a tribute to the strength it takes to overcome the shadows of the past, and a testament to the power of finding one’s voice. Mathias invites you to join her on this journey—one that is as much about healing as it is about the scars that remain.

Perfect for readers who appreciate heartfelt poetry with depth, emotion, and a compelling narrative, this book is a must-read for anyone who has ever had to fight to be heard, to be seen, and to reclaim their own story.
