About this Item

Description:

First edition stated. Full orange cloth binding with black letters and design, illustrated dust jacket, 7-5/8" x 5-1/4", 290 pp. Some fading to spine, though not bad considering the brightness of the original orange color; two closed tears to front panel, small tear in the "a" of Potash to front panel. About as good as can be expected. Montague Glass was a Jewish humorist who was best known for Jewish immigrant business partners Potash and Perlmutter: Abe Potash is the shrewd and practical partner, while Morris Perlmutter is more idealistic and often gets himself into trouble with his schemes. The stories are known for their use of Yiddish humor and language, as well as their portrayal of Jewish culture and immigrant life in America. Although they appear in "Lucky Numbers" the book is not exclusive to them, or even to New York City--two of the stories take place "in that strange land where anything can happen--the movie lots of the West." Uncommon title, especially so in original jacket. Seller Inventory # 002289
