Item description from seller

Ferdinand Gregorovius. Lucrezia Borgia A Chapter from the Morals of the Italian Renaissance. Lon: Phaidon Press, 1948, 361 pp. *** The author was a 19th. century German historian who specialized in the Medieval history of Rome. This work was first published in German in 1874. The English translation is very readable and fascinating to anyone interested in this subject. The text is 242 pages including Bibliography, Genealogical and Chronological Tables, and samples of the handwriting of Lucrezia Borgia and Pope Alexander VI. The next 97 pages contains 112 b&w illustrations, most full-page, of people and places, most from contemporary sources. The final section of the book has Notes on the Plates, and an Index. The illustrated dust jacket (not price clipped) is in a clear protective cover. This book is in my inventory and the images are of this particular item. *** Light gray cloth boards and spine, light blue panel on front cover and on spine with gilt lettering. Covers are clean with light bumping at corners. Contents clean and complete in good binding. Front free end paper embossed at bottom “Library of Jack R. Anderson.” Jacket is largely clean with overall age toning, moderate sunning on spine, wear on edges, moderate chipping at spine ends and flap ends, vertical tear along one spine fold repaired on verso with clear archival tape, both spine folds completely reinforced with same. *** 7.5 inches tall by 4.5 inches.
