Lucy, Life's Too Short (Paperback or Softback)

Lucy, Life's Too Short is Fabrice Poussin's most intimate and emotionally resonant collection to date, a sweeping tapestry of memory, loss, longing, and the fragile beauty of human connection. Through vivid imagery and a voice steeped in compassion, Poussin moves across vanished childhoods, fractured families, cosmic wanderings, and quiet domestic rituals, revealing the emotional truths hidden beneath the surface of ordinary days.

The collection opens with the haunting disappearance of Lucy, a symbolic figure whose absence becomes a lens through which the poet examines innocence, vulnerability, and the ways cruelty reshapes the world around us. From there, the book expands into a series of portraits-of fathers who fail, children who grieve, lovers who drift, elders who remember, and strangers who pass briefly through our lives yet leave indelible marks. Each poem is a window into a private universe, where tenderness and sorrow coexist, and where even the smallest gesture can carry the weight of a lifetime.

Poussin's imagery is cinematic and deeply textured: stained-glass windows suspended in forests, neon-orange prison uniforms flashing through parks, cosmic travelers drifting between galaxies, and domestic kitchens where birthdays, meals, and memories unfold with aching clarity. His characters inhabit spaces both real and mythic, moving through landscapes shaped by trauma, resilience, and the persistent desire to understand one another.

Despite the darkness that threads through the collection-abandonment, corruption, illness, grief-Lucy, Life's Too Short is ultimately a book about endurance. It is about the ways people continue to love, continue to hope, continue to remember, even when the world around them fractures. Poussin's voice is gentle yet unflinching, offering readers a rare blend of emotional honesty and lyrical grace.

This collection stands as a testament to the brevity and complexity of life. It invites readers to pause, reflect, and feel deeply. With its blend of narrative clarity, poetic intensity, and philosophical undercurrent, Lucy, Life's Too Short is a powerful addition to Poussin's body of work and a moving exploration of what it means to be human.
