Add to basketSir Henry Rider Haggard, KBE (22 June 1856 14 May 1925) was an English writer of adventure novels set in exotic locations, predominantly Africa, and a founder of the Lost World literary genre. He was also involved in agricultural reform around the British Empire. His stories, situated at the lighter end of Victorian literature, continue to be popular and influential. "Lysbeth" is the story of a Dutch burgher family set in the middle years of the sixteenth century. Here is an extremely fresh near fine copy of the English first edition, first printing. The dark blue cloth binding is very clean with no signs of sunning to the spine. The gilt lettering is strong and bright. The boards and corners are unbumped. Inside the binding is tight with no cracking at the hinges. The only markings are a neat fountain pen signature to the title page and another signature to the front paste-down. All 26 of the illustrations are present, two being loose. There is some spotting to the page fore-edges and, sporadically, to the pages. Overall this is a very attractive copy indeed.
