Jeanne de Valois-Saint-Rémy, comtesse de La Motte, Mémoires justificatifs de la comtesse de Valois de La Motte, écrits par elle-même. Londres, s.n., 1788. In-8, 232-46p. Edition originale de ces fameux mémoires, enrichie de la signature autographe de l?auteur (p.232). La comtesse de La Motte est connue pour son rôle dans l?Affaire du Collier qui vit sa condamnation à perpétuité. Elle parvint néanmoins à s?évader et s?enfuit à Londres où elle fut rejointe par son mari. Elle fit alors paraître ces mémoires, bourrés de mensonges, où elle prétend notamment avoir été une intime de Marie-Antoinette. La seconde partie (les pièces justificatives) prétend publier la correspondance entre la reine Marie-Antoinette et le cardinal de Rohan. Tous les exemplaires de cette édition en sont pas signés. Provenances : Armes d'alliance de la famille hollandaise Paravicini Di Capelli (à gauche) avec leur devise « Candidior nive » et d'une autre famille non identifiée avec la devise « Candore » ; Ex-libiris manuscrit J Johnston, caché sous le suivant ; Ex-libris armorié « Lord Blayney », probablement Cadwallader Blayney (1802-1874), noble irlandais membre de la chambre des Lords. On notera que l?arrière-grand-tante de Blayney, Elizabeth, avait épousé le capitaine Joshua Johnston. Il est possible que l?ouvrage provient d?un de leurs enfants ou petits-enfants avant d?arriver chez Blayney. Plein veau (reliure anglaise ou hollandaise), dos lisse, armes au centre des plats, petits défauts d?usage, coiffe supérieure arasée. Charnières et dos un peu frottés, salissures à certaines pages. Rare édition en petit format.Descendante des Valois, Jeanne de Luz épousa en 1780 le Comte de La Motte attaché au comte d'Artois. Elle fut prise en amitié par Marie-Antoinette et devint l'héroïne de l'affaire du Collier. Emprisonnée à la Salpêtrière, elle parvint à s'échapper et à rejoindre son mari en Angleterre. Sie erhebt darin schwere Vorwürfe gegen die Königin von Frankreich, Maria Antoniette. Ab Seite 173 sind angebliche Briefe Maria Antoniette und Kardinal Louis de Rohans, welche die Schuld der Königin und ihre eigene Unschuld beweisen sollen.
