Nineteen distinguished contributors provide essays about the development of cognitive science by colleagues of George A. Miller, a central figure whose own intellectual history is to a large extent a history of the field. Each contributor was invited to write about the period in which each was most closely associated with Miller--to try to recapture the intellectual climate of the time and to place, retrospectively, each successive research venture in its larger context.
