Item description from seller

Poor condition. i-iv, 3-274, 1-4 pages. Hardcover: H 19.5cm x L 13.25cm. Dark brown pebble cloth spine with edge-worn brown cloth boards; more than half of spine cloth perished with underlying backstrip exposed; stained front board only tenuously attached but rear board is firm. Text block edges stained and toned. Dark brown endpapers; front endpapers edge-worn; 1890 ink inscription of Rodney (Jefferson County), Mississippi resident on front pastedown with undated pencil inscription of Huron (Amite County), Mississippi on opposing front free endpaper. Front flyleaf has bookseller ink stamp "J.E. Lea | Dealer in General Merchandise | [illegible] Miss." which is likely contemporary to book's publication. Stub of a removed flyleaf or half-title; soiling and some stains to leaves. Text block remains reasonably firm. Title leaf verso has 1872 copyright but book was likely issued between 1887-1890 as Chicago publisher John Buckbee appears to have only operated, per Library of Congress catalog holdings, within that time frame and the book certainly correlates to that era per its binding and typeset. Findagrave cites two likely related individuals named James Everett Lea, one living from 1819-1878 and the other being 1888-1965, both of Huron, Amite County, Mississippi; the J.E. Lea who evidently was the book's retailer would have to be the son of the former and the father of the latter but a correspondingly initialed Lea is not cited within the same graveyard by the genealogical website (however, fitting nicely in the requisite timeframe, is a James Everett Lea, 1863-1939, who is buried in Clarksdale in Mississippi's northern Delta region but with no cited connection to the either of the Amite County individuals). The book was acquired from a Brookhaven (Lincoln County), Mississippi estate which is geographically adjacent to Amite County. 19th century bookseller stamps-tickets for Mississippi are quite uncommon.
