Edge-chipped with a closed tear, ex-libris of the New York Camera Club affixed to the blank reverse of the front wrapper; conservation to spine, else a good copy. Housed in a newly made clamshell box of cloth with decorative pastepaper and printed label. This was likely a "remainder" copy, with new wrappers added to the original sheets, which list Seely and Garbanati, 1859 as the publishers. First published in 1855, this manual quickly became the standard for its time. According to Eder "It is particularly valuable because he treated photo-chemistry exhaustively and gave an original and very useful method for the production of photographic collodion cotton." Sipley, in PHOTOGRAPHY'S GREAT INVENTORS calls this ".the first manual of photo-chemistry." It is actually the first manual of photographic chemistry in the English language. The author, in his preface to this edition states that alterations and additional material have been added since the last edition. This copy bears an ex-libris of John Aspinwall, presenting this to the Camera Club of New York. Seller Inventory # 26309
