(1953), xiv, 555pp, index, extensive bibliography, illustrated. Extremities lightly worn, else G+. The author was the wife of J. G. Randall who wrote a biography of Abraham Lincoln. While collaborating with him on a couple of chapters, she saw that most of the information concerning the president's wife had come from the papers of William H. Herndon, who did not speak very kindly toward Mrs. Lincoln. In the foreword the author states that her book is a biography of a marriage. She says it is impossible fully to understand a wife without knowledge of the husband, and that her purpose is to present the personality and intimate life of Abraham Lincoln along with a full-length biography of his wife.
