Learn to configure, customize, integrate, optimize, and
troubleshoot today's hottest operating system. This self-study guide
includes everything you need to prepare for the Windows NT Workstation
4.0 exam, whether you seek an MCSE, MCSD, or MCPS certification. The
book includes a CD featuring an MCSE test-simulation program.
This book reads much like some of the high-end technical references for NT. You'll find information here about preparing for and performing an NT installation, setting up groups on a network, and configuring hardware in the absence of plug-and-play. However, unlike technical references, this book keeps the NT Workstation portion of the MCSE certification squarely in view all the time, providing the reader with focus.
After explaining NT installation and configuration, the authors go on to talk about security--one of the prime concerns of any systems administrator. Perkins, Strebe, and Chellis then discuss networking at great length, talking about network protocols--giving special attention to TCP/IP--and connectivity to existing NetWare networks. DNS (Domain Name Service) service, RAS (Remote Access Service), and printing (both locally and over a network) get plenty of coverage. The authors wrap up with tuning and troubleshooting information.
Throughout the book the authors explain topics before taking you through tightly focused, step-by-step exercises that help you learn by doing. Chapters conclude with quizzes, the answers to which appear in an appendix. Similarly, the companion CD-ROM includes automated quiz routines.
