Get a head start on one of the most popular elective exams for MCSE certification. Learn how to handle TCP/IP internetworking with NT Server 3.51. Use TCP/IP to enable communications between different operating systems, including Windows 95, Windows NT, OS/2, and Unix. Most important, find out how to harness the true power of TCP/IP while maintaining network security. The companion CD includes a sample test program that simulates the real TCP/IP exam.

A popular elective on the road to Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE) certification and a requirement of the MCSE + Internet rating, Microsoft's TCP/IP exam (70-059) tests many aspects of Windows NT and open Internet protocols. MCSE: TCP/IP for NT Server 4 Study Guide helps you get clear about how Windows NT implements TCP/IP. As do all the Sybex MCSE books, this one includes plenty of exam-like multiple-choice questions you can use to identify weak points in your Windows NT knowledge.

The authors of MCSE: TCP/IP for NT Server 4 Study Guide present more than facts, choosing to back up "hard" material with analogies, exercises, and other supplementary prose. It's important to note that they do cover all the subjects that appear on the TCP/IP exam--they use Microsoft's guidelines as a means of organization. Whether the supplementary material is a help or a hindrance depends on your learning style.

If you're an MCSE candidate in search of a sparer style, you might be happier with a different TCP/IP preparation book; but if you prefer readable prose and experiments in addition to lists of facts, you'll appreciate the authors' approach here. If you don't want to haul a book around at all, you will benefit from the quiz programs on the two CD-ROMs that accompany the book. --David Wall
