CONTENTS DESCRIPTION: The author was an American politician from Texas. Reagan resigned from the U.S. House of Representatives when Texas declared secession from the United States and joined the Confederate States of America. He served in the cabinet of Jefferson Davis as Postmaster General. REFERENCES: KRICK 412: "About one-third of this volume deals with Reagan's variegated pre-war military, legal and political career. There is also material on his post-war activities which included a spell in the U.S. Senate. The vast majority for the memoir, however, concentrates on Reagan's experiences as a Confederate official. Nine sizable appendices reproduce documents connected with Reagan's career; among them are two very long letters written from prison at Fort Warren."
