HIS MIRACLES AND OURS!

Gerald Callahan is a husband, Dad, PaPa, friend, and aspiring Christian. He grew up in Chicago Illinois, graduating from Austin High School in 1950, then served in the Navy on a Minesweeper (AMS104) from 1951 - 1955. After the Navy, he earned his BS in Education degree from Stetson University in 1958 and went on to coach the College of Charleston Basketball team for a few years. It wasn't long before he shifted his attention to the financial services industry, where he eventually retired after a successful 40 year career in investment and insurance management. Not one to sit idle, he has since spent his retirement years first as an Adjunct Professor at the University of South Carolina, and more recently as a High School substitute teacher. As a disabled vet, Master Mason, and member of the American Legion, he remains active in his church and community despite approaching 90 years of age; substituting keeps him active, bridge keeps his mind sharp, and reminiscing with others keeps his heart full.

In 2018, Gerald experienced a religious awakening while reminiscing about the wonderful life he was blessed with after his devoted wife, Alice Miller Callahan, died. Originally written as an auto-biography of his "journey" for his family, “HIS Miracles and Ours” evolved into a book on how everyone experiences unexplainable events but never has the time to explore their meaning. Each chapter offers insight into how the influence of others, or the coincidences of life, resulted in some version of a life altering enrichment, starting with a series of events that led to his 63 year marriage to his loving wife, Alice.

Through his book, he hopes to prompt Christians, agnostics, atheists, and others to recognize and reflect on the “aha” moments we all experience where we momentarily “wonder why that happened”! Through a series of true-life stories, this book attempts to illustrate how the “coincidences” in our lives may actually be part of a bigger plan, if only we took the time to look closer..

Or, the book can be read simply for the pleasure of seeing how another person’s journey through life has gone.
