Two technicians put gauges on the same misbehaving system and reach opposite conclusions. The difference is almost never the tools.
Refrigeration and air conditioning is usually taught in halves. One half is field procedure handed down without the physics that explains it, so a technician learns to look for ten degrees of subcooling without ever learning what subcooling reveals. The other half is thermodynamic theory taught away from the equipment, so a graduate can derive a cycle efficiency but has never watched a compressor short-cycle. Each half works until a system does something the procedure does not cover.
