MORPHODYNAMICS: A Field-Theoretic Synthesis of Morphological Evolution and Typological Universals

Morphology is often described in the idiom of lists—affixes, categories, rules—useful inventories that nonetheless miss what languages actually do. Languages do not behave like lists. They behave like systems: dynamic, evolving, patterned, and structured across multiple scales.
