Nogal wat foto's hebben betrekking op de verwoestingen aangericht door het geallieerd bombardement van 5 april 1943. In de Eerste Wereldoorlog werden vele gebouwen door de Belgische genietroepen neergehaald om het schootsveld rond Fort IV vrij te maken. De Stad Mortsel grenst aan Antwerpen maar is niet opgenomen geweest in de fusie.
