8 pages. Illustrations. Format is approximately 8.5 inches by 11 inches. Stapled at upper left corner. The authors were with BNFL Engineering Limited of Manchester, United Kingdom. There is no indication that this is an off-print/reprint of a journal article. Format is two columns per page. This may be a surviving copy of a mid-1990s BNFL promotional item (the reproduced handwritten date of March 1996 is on the top right corner of the first page). This paper aims to show that the utilization of MOX technology can reduce plutonium stockpiles by degrading weapons-grade plutonium through fabrication of MOX fuel, with subsequent generation of electricity in thermal nuclear reactors. This paper discusses BNFL's experience with MOX technology and provides insight into the capabilities of BNFL Engineering and its approach to major projects. In particular, it addresses the safeguards provisions appropriate to accommodate feed materials arising from nuclear weapons decommission programs.
