First Edition. 1st edition hardcover rebound in green linen and leather with 5 raised bands and gilt ruled edges, and blindstamped huntsman, hounds and fox in boxes on fpine. Original blue illustrated cover is bound in rear. Board tips bumped and rubbed. Text tight and bright with rear hinge cracked and front hinge starting but page block going nowhere. Classic tale of the chase loaded with b/w vignettes and 8 full page b/w plates. Hand-colored tissue-guarded frontis in fine shape. Originally published 1865. Former copy of the late Joseph B. Wiley Jr of Bedminster NJ with his sig on fep. Wiley: July 28, 1919- Feb. 21, 2017. In the late 1950's Wiley got involved with the newly formed Tewksbury Foot Bassets, quickly assuming the role of hunt secretary. For many years, he served as field master, a perfect role for introducing young and old to the sport. He is still listed as honorary joint master of the beloved pack of hounds.
