MURDER IN THE NORTH COUNTRY Format: Paperback

When an Adirondack town is suddenly faced with the murder of two women, the task of tracking down the killer falls to Sheriff Alex Banks and Lt. Harry Donahue. Driven by public outcry, local politicians are bent on arresting Chuck Fowler, whose relationships with both victims ended abruptly when the women found themselves subjected to his violent temper. Lt. Donahue believes Fowler is guilty; Sheriff Banks disagrees.

Sheriff Banks reflects on the past summer when he and Rose Clifford, the first victim, had shared a brief encounter. In the course of the investigation, Banks finds himself drawn to Rose s friend Jenny Wyland. When an attempt is made on Jenny's life, he is more certain than ever that a killer is still at large. Banks knows he must stop the killer before he strikes again.

A native New Yorker, I look back to those early years when I would sit pen in hand in my place in our Old Town Canoe writing stories or poems at my leisure while my husband juggled his fishing line in one of the lush, mountain lakes we both loved so well. Time passed, and the mountains, moods, and invitations to adventure were challenged with expectation and promise. The years moved along to a quieter aspect of mountain life: a Schroon River camp at Lake Wakonda with the nightly crackle of a campfire blending in with shared reminiscent junkets to those rugged days of tenting on the Saranac Islands or our first bear encounter at Forked Lake . Whatever the memories, they are as alive today as they were in the days we lived them.
