Written by McKellar, a lieutenant in the Canadian Machine Gun Service, the note reads, "The methods of Organization of Machine Gun Units and the sequence of training set forth in this book are those that have been accepted for instructional purposes as a result of the experience of the last three years. The book is written out of the experience of the author at the front and in instructing men for active service in the present war." It includes chapters on training; machine gun types and use; characteristics; machine gunners and their duties; military vocabulary; visual training; targets; machine gun fire (angles, elevation and windage); ranging fire; combined sights; fire orders; night firing; overhead firing; indirect firing; range cards; positions; open warfare; outline of trench system; field works, trenches, etc. This is the fourth printing of this classic WW I manual, having originally been printed in July, 1917 and reprinted in September and November, 1917; and then January, 1918 printing. I k stamp on inside front cover, "Dellquest's Headquarters for Military Books. Augusta, GA"; name of original owner, "Thurston H. Ross / Machine Gun School", also on inside front cover. Fine condition; clean and bright throughout with only a little dirt showing on top edges of page block. [E13-637.7].
