The Machine and the Maker: Artificial Intelligence, Human Destiny, and the Question of Who Holds the Future

Could artificial intelligence one day eliminate humanity? As AI advances, that question has moved from science fiction into serious public debate. The Machine and the Maker takes the fear seriously while asking a larger question: Who holds the future?

Gary C. Johnson, JD, examines the possibilities and limits of AI through two lines of inquiry. One looks at human choices: research, engineering, law, government, and the institutions responsible for keeping powerful technology accountable. The other draws on Christian theology and Scripture to consider human identity, moral responsibility, and God’s sovereignty.

Written for readers who want a thoughtful response to alarming predictions, this book brings secular research and Christian conviction into conversation. It does not ask readers to dismiss genuine risks. It invites them to examine the evidence, face uncertainty honestly, and consider why humanity’s future need not be surrendered to fear.
