A smart collection of twenty volumes from Macmillan's Pocket Kipling, with illustrations throughout. Twenty volumes of a thirty-five volume set. Macmillan's Pocket Kipling. Illustrated throughout. A collection of the works of Joseph Rudyard Kipling, an English journalist, novelist, poet, and short-story writer who was born in British India. Kipling is seen as an innovator in the art of the short story and, in 1907, he was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature, as the first English-language writer to receive the prize, and at the age of forty-one, its youngest recipient to date. With illustrations from a collection of British artists, including John Lockwood Kipling, an English art teacher, illustrator and museum curator; William Henry Drake, an American painter, watercolorist, illustrator; and Paul Frenzeny, an American artist and illustrator. This set contains: The Jungle Book, 1910. The Second Jungle Book, 1910. The Nauklahka: A Story of West and East, 1910. From Sea to Sea and Other Sketches, 1910. Many Inventions, 1910. The Five Nations, 1910. Puck of Pook's Hill, 1911. Departmental Ditties and Other Verses, 1911. Barrack-Room Ballads and Other Verses, 1911. Just So Stories for Little Children, 1911. Letters of Travel (1892-1913), 1920. A Book of Words, 1928. Limits and Renewals, c1930. In the original full red calf binding. Externally, smart with light rubbing and bumping to the extremities. Fading to the spines with minor loss to the head and tail of the spine of the odd volume. The odd small mark to the boards with the odd small crack or tear to the spines. Front hinge failed to Just So Stories with the front endpaper loosening. Front hinge starting but firm to Captain Courageous. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright with the odd small spot or handling mark. A contemporary ink inscription to the front endpaper of the odd volume. Creases to the front few pages of Limits and Renewals. Good.…
