Among his many awards, Mac has been voted 'Cartoonist of the Year' on 6 occasions and 'Political Cartoonist of the year' 4 times. 2012 Awarded Lifetime Achievement Award2004 Awarded MBE in New Years Honours List.2003 Voted Cartoonist of the Year by TVs' "What the Papers Say"2002 Awarded "The Pont Award" - Cartoon Arts Trust Awards.2000 Voted by his peers to receive the "Master Cartoonist Award".1999 Voted Cartoonist of the Year by the British Press Awards.Mac started out in the animation cartoon film industry after two years at Birmingham College of Art. His parents were unable to support him for the full term of his course so it was therefore necessary for him to earn a living.From an early age he showed extraordinary talent with his sketches and drawings. In his late teens he devised a strip cartoon for the amusement of his friends and family.Before joining the Daily Sketch in 1968 he freelanced for Punch and other magazines. In the early 1960's he teamed up with another struggling cartoonist friend and together they wrote many of the television scripts for Tommy Cooper and Dave Allen. In 1968 he joined the Daily Sketch, which was later taken over by the Daily Mail. Mac has been resident cartoonist for 45 years.In 1977 he wrote the children's book, The Bungee Venture that was subsequently made into a cartoon film.Throughout his time at the Daily Mail he has contributed many thousands of pounds from the sale of his cartoons to his favorite charity. This he has done quietly and without recognition. He is immensely proud to have been appointed Chairman of the "Saints and Sinners" club earlier this year and to have been invited to become honorary cartoonist to the Royal Variety Club of Great Britain Golfing Society.In 2004 he was granted an MBE in the New Years' honours list for "services to the newspaper industry" and in 2008 he was thrilled to be invited to be a guest on radio programme "Desert Island Discs". Mac spends an inordinate amount of time and trouble helping aspiring young cartoonists and will go out of his way to provide assistance and advice
