Madame Boniface: Comic Opera In Three Acts (1884)

Madame Boniface is a comic opera in three acts, written by Ernest Depre and first published in 1884. The story follows the titular character, Madame Boniface, a wealthy and eccentric widow who is determined to marry off her daughter, Marie-Louise, to a wealthy and titled suitor. However, Marie-Louise is in love with a poor artist named Jean, and the two of them conspire to thwart Madame Boniface's plans. Along the way, there are misunderstandings, mistaken identities, and plenty of comedic hijinks. The opera features a cast of colorful characters, including a bumbling police officer, a conniving matchmaker, and a group of boisterous artists. With catchy tunes and witty lyrics, Madame Boniface is a lighthearted romp that pokes fun at the conventions of society and the absurdities of love. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
