On se presse à ses concerts, il est applaudi, acclamé, adulé. Il devient, du jour au lendemain, une légende et la coqueluche de toute l'Europe. Chevalier de la Légion d'honneur, Baron de l'Empire allemand, il épouse une noble Prussienne. Couvert de gloire et d'honneurs, il a atteint le sommet. Et pourtant, quelques décennies plus tard, c'est un homme brisé, ruiné, à moitié aveugle et oublié de tous qui débarquera anonymement à Buenos Aires pour mourir dans une pension misérable... Brindis a emporté sa vérité dans la tombe. Trois personnes qui ont été ses intimes cherchent à renouer le fil brisé de la mémoire. Trois témoins de ses heures les plus belles – et les plus sombres. About the Author
Eduardo Manet, Cubain ayant adopté la France comme patrie et le français comme langue, s'est imposé au cours des dix dernières années comme une importante figure de la fiction française contemporaine. Il s'est d'abord fait connaître comme auteur dramatique ("Les Nonnes", "Un balcon dans les Andes"...). Sans cesser d'écrire pour le théâtre, il s'est ensuite tourné vers le roman. Il a publié, entre autres, "L'Île du Lézard vert" (Flammarion, 1992, prix Goncourt des lycéens) et "Rhapsodie cubaine" (Grasset, 1996, prix Interallié).
