Acupuncture has occupied a prominent place in the healing arts of China for thousands of years, and it remains an important component of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). In "Magic Needles." The authors open the narrative with a history of acupuncture. Then explain how acupuncture's "magic needles" release a natural energy that can alleviate even longstanding health conditions--including asthma, bronchitis, substance abuse, headaches, and hypertension. They continue with a discussion of how acupuncture works, what condtitions are most responsive to it, and which treatments are approved by physicians and health organizations. Part 1 concludes with an overview of research on acupuncture and advice on selecting a practioner.
Part 2 describes the theories upon which TCM is structured, and the bulk of the book, Part 3, presents case histories of people whose conditions have been cured or alleviated by Dr. Xu's skillful treatment. And although acupuncture is not a "self-help" treatment (whereas acupressure can be), Dr. Xu has supplied detailed tables and photos of acupuncture points for the conditions he discusses. Finally, the back of the book includes tips for practitioners, a glossary of terms, and a reference section.
