[English] Condition: Very Good One of the classic Victorian books on conjuring by Professor Hoffmann, the pen name of Angelo Lewis, whose writings helped shape the modern literature of magic. Published as a follow-up to his landmark Modern Magic, the work covers card tricks, sleight of hand, coin work, vanishes, productions, transformations, handkerchief tricks, billiard ball routines, magical apparatus, and performance techniques. Illustrated throughout with 140 engravings. Bound in dark green pictorial cloth with beveled edges, stamped in gilt, black, white, and red. With the ownership label of James H. Gosch, a Schenectady-area magician who performed publicly throughout New York's Capital Region during the 1970s and 1980s and was noted as a past president of a local chapter of the Society of American Magicians. Shelf wear and rubbing to the spine ends with bumped and rubbed corners. Front endpaper lacking. Light staining to several of the first and last leaves; otherwise the pages remain fairly clean. .
