Arranged alphabetically by topic in tabular form, this manual for justices of the peace lists offenses, their statutory origin, possible penalties, the right of appeal, where applicable, and other information. A popular work, it was first published in 1848, as The Synopsis of Summary Convictions, and went through several editions and issues, the last in 1893. Despite its popularity, most editions are scarce or rare today. OCLC locates 3 editions of the fifth edition, none in North America.
