Most books these days by celebrities, especially those with any political renown, are not very good, other than for their appeal to the political voyeur. Usually their self-aggrandizing nature is self-evident. Because this work by a Philadelphia businessman and politician is less self-trumpeting, it is, for the most part, captivating storytelling. It is uneven in parts and often fails to pursue subjects worthy of further exploration; however, no book is fatally flawed whose author's maxim is "Do good, have fun, and don't hurt anyone along the way." Finding a politician with a sense of humor is rare; finding one with the ability to direct it at himself is a jewel of a find. One wonders, upon reading his various encounters over the years in the political warfare of the City of Brotherly Love, how he stayed sane. Recommended.
