"This fascinating map commemorates the efforts of the 25th Armored Engineer Battalion in the European Theater of Operations during the Second World War. A simple base map in the center of the sheet shows the unit's route across Europe after landing in France. Four separate insets in circular 'bubbles' surround the map and provide further details on specific campaigns in Normandy, the Ardennes, the Rhineland, and Lorraine. Within each inset, small vignettes capture specific experiences and aspects of the war particular to the engineers; such as laying wire, clearing minefields, and cutting timber. The 25th's insignia and motto, Ingenio Vincimus (We Conquer by Ingenuity) can be seen in the lower right, while the patch of the 6th Armored Division is shown directly above. The lower left contains a large block of text that summarizes the unit's history and contributions to victory in the E.T.O. It concludes with an incredible list of statistics - "Behind us were 51 of our bridges, extending a total of 2,740 feet. Since Utah Beach we had furnished the Super 6th with 11,500,000 gallons of water and over 21 tons of maps. We swept 325 miles of roads for mines and moved 1,250 enemy mines and booby traps. We fought the enemy and defeated him!" The map is scarce on the market (this is the second example I have had) and in institutional collections. As of August 2024, only one example was listed in WorldCat, at Texas A&M University.
