About the Author

Nancy Beardall, ADTR, CMA, LMHC, Ph.D., is an educator, dancer, dance/movement therapist, and counselor. Throughout her career, Nancy has been dedicated to bringing dance into the schools. She also developed social and emotional learning programs through the arts. Nancy has developed the Creating a Peaceable School: Confronting Intolerance and Bullying, curriculum which has awarded the Anti-Defamation Leagues 1998 Teaching Award. She has brought many innovative programs to the Newton Public Schools. At this time, Nancy is the coordinator of Newton Norths High School Mentors in Violence Prevention program, teaches at Lesley University, and has a private practice.

Stephen Bergman, M.D., Ph.D., is a writer, psychiatrist, and educator. He is the director of the Gender Relations Project at the Stone Center, Wellesley College. With Janet Surrey, he is co-author of the play Bill W. and Dr. Bob and We Have to Talk: Healing Dialogues between Women and Men. As Samuel Shem, he is the author of the novels The House of God, Fine, and Mount Misery. He is also a partner at MPM hospital, a healthcare investment firm.

Janet Surrey, Ed.M., Ph.D., is a clinician, writer, and educator. She is a founding scholar of the Jean Baker Miller Training Institute and co-director of the Gender Relations Project at the Stone Center, Wellesley College. She is on the faculty of the Andover-Newton Theological Seminary School and the Institute for Meditation and Psychotherapy. She is co-author of Womens Growth in Connection, Womens Growth in Diversity, and Mothering Against the Odds. With Dr. Bergman, she is co-author of We Have to Talk: Healing Dialogues between Women and Men and the play Bill W. and Dr. Bob.
