He decides to build a giant garden gnome as a symbol of Flemish identity, but the construction process brings buried tensions to the surface as the other artists become jealous of Pieterjan's authority. In The Making Of, Evens delves deep into the petty tensions, small misunderstandings, and deadpan humor that pervade modern relationships.

About the Authors

Brecht Evens is a cartoonist, visual artist, and musician based in Belgium. His first graphic novel in English, The Wrong Place, was awarded the Prix de l’Audace at the Angoulême Comics Festival.

Michele Hutchison is a literary translator from Dutch and French into English. In 2020, she won the Vondel Translation Prize for her translation of Stage Four by Sander Kollaard and the International Booker Prize, together with the author Marieke Lucas Rijneveld, for The Discomfort of Evening. She is also the coauthor of The Happiest Kids in the World: What We Can Learn from Dutch Parents.
