Cream cloth with gilt spine titles; 8vo; 171pp; illustrated with drawings by Russell Chatham; color pictorial dust jacket. A marvelous, well-written paean to the noble woodcock. "The Seneca Indians believed that the Creator made the woodcock from the leftover parts of every other bird. If that is true, his heart must be that of an eagle, for it is big and filled with the unique courage required to wander in solitude through the mysterious forests of his continent." (from Chapter One) A must read for any woodcock enthusiast. This copy is in near-fine, collectible condition and a bit more attractive than the 1st edition, published by Willow Creek Press in 1985.
