Synopsis:

This is a college-level text for "worldview" classes, taught primarily in Christian and Bible colleges. This book will help the Christian student understand what he believes by looking at his own faith and seeing that it is, or should be, not just assenting to a creed but a whole way of life. The book challenges students (and other adult Christians as well) to look at other world views and try to understand them, with the purpose of being able to more intelligently defend their own (perhaps newly acquired) biblical worldview.

Excerpt. © Reprinted by permission. All rights reserved.: From the Introduction: It is time to recover the Christian mind. But even while some lament the nonexistence of the Christian mind, American Christianity charges full-speed ahead in its course of incessant activity, indomitable individualism, and irrepressible pragmatism. " Doing the work" and "getting results" make up the all-consuming objectives of the Christian church and leave little room (and time) for tough-minded contemplation of the role of a Christian worldview. Quantifying the work of the ministry has resulted in sanctified versions of the Fortune 500 (the largest churches and ministries), the top forty (Christian pop music), and the Nielsen ratings (Christian television). The "feel-good" religion that Christianity has become casts a jaundiced eye toward anything that smacks of "intellectual pursuit." Historian Mark Noll quips, "Comprehensive and coherent Christian thinking has never been a major part of religious life in America."
