Making model aircraft

MAKING MODEL AIRCRAFT is a basic guide to one of the oldest and most popular of hobbies – model making, and the making of miniature aircraft in particular. Many hobbyists, especially those with limited time, enjoy the convenience of plastic modeling kits. But for the serious model enthusiast who has looked with envy on the delicate, superb models in museums and exhibitions, this is the book that will bring such authentic, original model building into the scope of the casual, at-home hobbyist. The first full-length, practical book devoted exclusively to constructing scale-model aircraft from plastic and balsa, MAKING MODEL AIRCRAFT leads the beginner through researching and detailing plastic kits, buying tools and materials, and the specifics of converting and scratch building. Topics include working from and making your own scale drawings; home molding; constructing a miniature vacuum-forming machine; detailing cockpits, wheel wells, and control surfaces; obtaining realist natural metal and other finishes; making decals; and many other practical hints for the expert and novice alike. Individual chapters tell how to make “solid” models from balsa, how to scratch build from plastic card, and how to convert scale proportions. A readable book, packed with step-by-step instructions, MAKING MODEL AIRCRAFT belongs on the library shelf of all present and would-be modelers.
