Mallory's Game (Paperback)

Paperback. One year after the brilliant but unhinged Victor Mallory vanished into the night, life in Cedar Creek has almost returned to normal. Danny Hayes and Grace Thompson, still scarred from their last encounter with the madman, cling to a fragile peace. Sheriff Chuck Matthews keeps a quiet watch, convinced Mallory will strike again. He's right. When cryptic notes arrive-delivered with Mallory's trademark flair for theatrics-small Midwestern towns are forced onto his live-action chessboard. Factories, cornfields, and quiet main streets become stages for elaborate puzzles, mechanical traps, and deadly mind games. Danny, Grace, and Matthews must follow his clues, each step drawing them deeper into Mallory's twisted experiment. As 1980s payphones crackle with threats and CB radios buzz with riddles, the trio finds themselves racing against time to stop Mallory's endgame: contaminating the region's water supply in a deranged bid to prove his genius. With small-town lives hanging in the balance, the battle is as much psychological as physical. Every move counts. Every mistake costs dearly. And while the FBI hails victory, Danny, Grace, and Matthews know the truth-Mallory is still out there, watching, laughing, ready for the next round.
