About the Author
Samantha Izzo, executive chef at Simply Red Bistro, was raised in South Africa, where she was exposed to a style of cooking that fused unique African culture and traditional American influences to create flavorful masterpieces. From early on, Samantha knew she enjoyed creating food to please her friends and family. After moving to the US, Samantha decided to make sure she would like working in a professional kitchen and applied for the training program at Cheesecake Factory. The chain recognized her natural gifts as they moved her around the country to restaurant units in Atlanta, Chicago, Pasadena, Westbury, and Boston. Samantha s cooking evolved as she became head chef at Boston s Six Burner Cafe, a position that influenced the way she thought about food, and afforded her the knowledge that she could cook to suit her own tastes. The next culinary journey took her to Trumansburg, New York, where she converted a local diner into Simply Red Bistro. After 5 years she relocated the restaurant to Sheldrake Point Winery where she continues to deconstruct traditional bistro fare and rebuild it with her own personal touch. Outside of creating culinary masterpieces in her Finger Lakes kitchen, Samantha Izzo enjoys spending time with husband Gary and their three-year old daughter Madi.
