Apparently, the time of the writing of this Epistle is a time of great persecution against the Jews. Peter, in writing to the 'scattered strangers' reminds and encourages the recipients of his letter to put their trust in Christ Jesus. As Jesus suffered, the child of God is 'blessed' to suffer in his mission to be like Christ. He reminds them in chapter one of 1st Peter, in their inheritance incorruptible and undefiled, kept by the power of God through faith in salvation that will be revealed in the last time, in though they are in heaviness because of great trials and temptation, that this trial of faith, which is more precious than gold tried in fire, will be found unto praise, honor and glory when Jesus appears. He encourages them to treat one another as they should; dads, moms, other Christians etc. This book is divided into two parts: commentary of 1st Peter and commentary of 2nd Peter. Bob Koonce takes you through these great epistles verse by verse bringing out the narrative in easy to understand language that is suitable for Pastor, teacher or lay minister alike. The 2nd Epistle has Peter calling these Christians to remembrance and warning about the adversary, satan. The commentary for this epistle is included with 1st Peter commentary to provide two volumes in one. Both commentaries follow the same format with information and word studies from Bishop Koonce, plus he consults the commentaries of other great writers and includes the comments where applicable. The Bible books of 1 & 2 Peter are must reads for today's Christian. 'The Man Called Peter' commentary will give you great assistance in understanding these valuable letters to you and me.
