281 pp. A solid vintage copy of a popular reprint edition. Chesterton's novel, peopled by anarchists and secret agents, can be read as a thriller framed in Christian allegory. Bibliographical note: "Copyright, 1908, by Dodd, Mead and Company" (copyright page). But note that the publishers Boni and Liveright were only founded in 1917, and began issuing cheap reprints under the series title The Modern Library in the same year. The Man Who Was Thursday first appear on their list #3 in 1917. Strictly, we should write "1917?" or even "n.d." in the date field. But in any case, this is an early edition; see description and photos. Dark green leatherette over supple boards, characteristic of early Modern Library books; gilt spine lettering and publisher's medallion at top panel; ill. EPs; sewn binding. Steady wear at extremities of spine, which also shows the folding of use (photos); contact marks, both panels; gilding generally rubbed. Within, we find EPs and text block generally tanned; previous owner's name neatly penned, half-title. No markings to text; binding has held well. No DJ; archival cover supplied. For an excerpt, see photos. …

On the other hand, if we can find a rate that is lower than the one stated, we will also lower the cost for you.
